Our Committees and councils help to define our policies on the issues that are critical to your business or organization. These groups are not alone in formulating policy—we'll often ask for your views on certain key issues through meetings, mailings, and surveys. These exchanges provide valuable insight to the members of our committees and to the board of directors.
Transportation
Ad hoc committee to engage in pursuing the best possible avenues for the area’s future modes of transportation development to ensure a safe and efficient system of moving products and consumers which is important to the progress of our area.Government Relations
Ad Hoc committee to discuss issues and legislation affecting businesses and our quality of life and also consider sponsoring election forums when needed. Will meet as necessary.Convention Center Study
A committee formed to gain knowledge on the feasibility of constructing a convention center will be continued.Women’s Division
This segment of the Chamber provides another avenue of service to the organization. Assistance with various projects is provided by this group of outstanding volunteers. Interested women are encouraged to become a part of this dynamic group.Dumas Fall Festival Committee
Provide assistance and promotion of events that take place during the Fall season to include Museum Day, YMCA Tumbleweed 100 Bike Ride, Lions Club Arts and Craft Show, as well as any other new events that are created.Marketing Committee
The committee works closely with staff of the Chamber to help guide the marketing and advertising efforts which will have the best impact on chamber recognition and marketing of the destination to potential visitors.D’ Town BBQ Cook-Off
This outdoor cooking contest will be held in August at McDade Park in Dumas. Over 35 barbecue cooking teams will compete for cash prizes during the two-day event sanctioned by the International Bar-B-Que Cookers Association.Who We Are | Learn More About Our Visitor Center & Find Things to Do!
The Dumas/Moore County Texas Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Center is organized to achieve the objectives of:(1) Preserving the competitive enterprise system of business by: creating a better understanding and appreciation of the importance of business people and a concern for their problems; educating the business community and representing them in city, county, state and national legislative and political affairs; preventing or addressing controversies which are detrimental to expansion and growth of business and the community if they arise; creating a greater appreciation of the value of a more liberal investment of substance and self on behalf or the interests of competitive business;
(2) Promoting business and community growth and development by: promoting economic programs designed to strengthen and expand the income potential of all business within the trade area; promoting programs of civic, social and cultural nature which are designed to increase the functional and aesthetic values of the community; and discovering and correcting abuses which prevent the promotion of business expansion and community growth.
